New court documents and investigation updates reveal the 16-year-old stepbrother of 18-year-old Anna Kepner as a suspect in her death aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. Kepner, a cheerleader from Titusville who intended to join the military, was found dead on November 8 under a bed in her cabin. She was wrapped in a blanket and covered by life vests, according to a security source who spoke with ABC News.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner has not yet determined Anna Kepner’s cause or manner of death. Investigators are exploring whether a confrontation occurred between Kepner and her stepbrother before her death. Other possible causes under review include a medical emergency or an overdose.
The FBI’s Miami field office opened a federal investigation when the Carnival Horizon docked at PortMiami on the same day Kepner’s body was found. Agents are analyzing surveillance video, access-card logs, and other security data to identify who was near Kepner in the hours before her death.
