High schools across the Commonwealth officially switch from the ACT to the SAT

Change in College Admissions Exam in Kentucky

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has announced a switch from the ACT to the SAT as the state-funded college admissions exam, effective spring 2026.

According to Robbie Fletcher, Commissioner of Education at the KDE, this change has numerous benefits.

The SAT is also an adaptive test. In other words, it is a multi-stage adaptive test in that students will take a packet of questions and depending on how they do, the next packet will be based on how well they did on the first packet.

The KDE will ensure that parents and students are informed about this transition. Author's summary: Kentucky switches to SAT exam.
