October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Two events in Rochester this week aimed to combat the issue.
Angels of Mercy held an awareness walk Thursday. The organization is collecting donations of bedding, towels, clothing, and other essentials at its Butterfly Boutique on North Winton Road to help women in need.
So many of them, when they're starting over, they don't have those items. Here at the boutique ... they receive everything free of charge.
According to Angels of Mercy founder Mary Jo Colligan, the organization provides essential items to women in need. Despite a decrease in crime overall in Rochester, domestic violence continues to demand attention, as stated by Mayor Malik Evans: domestic violence "continues to demand our urgent and unwavering attention".
