Gun Store Owner Sentenced for Involuntary Manslaughter

A Berkeley County gun shop owner has been sentenced to 25 days in jail for the 2021 involuntary manslaughter of his employee.

Jon Whitley, owner of Coastal Firearms, pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to probation with a unique condition: he will serve 5 days in jail every year for 5 years, starting from November 5.

Whitley will also be required to complete community service with an organization that supports military families who have lost a spouse.

The sentence was handed down by Judge Rode, who followed the prosecution's recommendation.
