Europe Reviewing Ways to Better Protect Patients in Response to OCCRP Doctors Investigation

Europe Reviewing Ways to Better Protect Patients

The European Commission will review proposals to strengthen its alert system, which notifies authorities of disciplinary actions against doctors.

This decision comes after an investigation by OCCRP found that some doctors banned in one country can still find work in another.

The investigation identified over 100 doctors who lost their medical license for serious wrongdoing in one jurisdiction but are licensed to practice in another.

doctors were banned for sexual abuse of patients, for botched medical treatments, and even for intentionally misdiagnosing children as having cancer, for personal gain.
