In the heart of Toronto, residents of the Moss Park district have been struggling with a sudden power outage lasting more than 24 hours. Toronto Hydro has pledged to restore electricity to roughly 600 affected customers by Thursday morning following a major underground cable fault.
The outage began Wednesday at 8:11 a.m., caused by an underground cable fault. Investigators linked the issue to a suspected third-party excavation near a construction site that accidentally damaged Toronto Hydro’s infrastructure.
“This work is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but appears to have damaged our infrastructure.”
The company emphasized the importance of better coordination between contractors and utility providers to minimize future disruptions.
Toronto Hydro described the repair process as complex and time-consuming. Crews are working to safely locate, fix, and test the damaged lines before restoring service. Initially, the utility expected completion by 8:30 a.m. Thursday, but the estimate was later revised to 11:00 a.m.
