The Toronto Blue Jays had multiple opportunities to clinch the World Series in Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers but ultimately fell short by one run. As they enter the offseason, the team faces crucial choices, especially regarding star infielder Bo Bichette's future.
Bo Bichette, one of the Blue Jays' top players, wasn't signed to an extension before the season, making him a prime candidate in the upcoming free agency market. Baseball analyst Short recently forecasted that Bichette could land a major contract this winter.
“Given Bichette’s age — he'll be 28 in March — look for him to secure a long contract. My guess is eight years, but he could get a ninth year if there’s enough interest,” Short wrote.
Short also noted that Bichette's late-season knee injury isn’t expected to require surgery and shouldn’t hurt his market value.
Bichette could attract interest from any large-market team in need of an infielder. His versatility allows him to play multiple infield positions depending on where he signs.
“The most likely scenario is that Bichette will eventually find his way back to the Blue Jays, which seems like the best fit for all parties after an emotional postseason run. Everyone should feel like they have a job to finish.”
The Blue Jays and Bichette both appear motivated to continue their partnership after the intense playoff experience.
Bo Bichette is projected to sign a lucrative multi-year deal this offseason, with a high chance of returning to the Blue Jays after the team's near World Series victory.
