Aimee Lou Wood has opened up about struggling with body dysmorphia while filming bikini scenes for the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series The White Lotus. At 31, the actress shared her experience in an interview with Harper's Bazaar.
Aimee said she overcame negative body thoughts by shifting perspective:
“I shook myself out of it by thinking, ‘It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.’”She connected deeply with Chelsea, her optimistic and spiritual character, which helped blur the line between herself and her role. This connection gave her the confidence to embrace the scenes.
The actress revealed how starring in the popular American show brought a significant change to her life, placing her in the spotlight like never before. Frequent visits to Los Angeles for work and press became part of her routine.
Despite its glamour, Aimee described the California lifestyle as challenging, comparing it to a difficult emotional experience:
“I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic. It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time.”
Aimee Lou Wood battled body dysmorphia during filming but empowered herself through her character’s confidence amid the pressures of newfound fame and Los Angeles life.
