Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was touched by an unknown man while speaking with citizens in Mexico City’s historic downtown. The incident occurred as she walked from the National Palace to the Education Ministry.
According to a widely circulated video, a man who appeared intoxicated approached the president from behind, leaned in as if to kiss her, and touched her body with his hands. Sheinbaum gently pushed his hands away and smiled stiffly, saying,
“Don’t worry.”
A government official quickly intervened to stop the man.
President Sheinbaum confirmed she has pressed charges against the man following the incident. Her office did not immediately comment when asked for more information.
Similar to her political mentor and predecessor, ex-President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheinbaum often engages directly with the public, taking selfies and shaking hands in crowds. Her security detail was not visible in the close-up video of the event.

President Sheinbaum’s commitment to close public engagement, despite security risks, continues to shape her leadership style.
