Storm Warning in Massachusetts: High Winds and Snow Expected

Another surge of powerful winds is set to hit Massachusetts and parts of New England from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A developing low-pressure system moves across northern New England into the Gulf of Maine, where it will rapidly intensify in a process known as bombogenesis.

Meanwhile, a high-pressure system approaches from the southwest, tightening the pressure gradient and creating strong, gusty winds across the region.

“Air flows from high pressure to low pressure. The bigger the difference, the stronger the winds.”

As this pressure difference peaks, westerly and northwesterly winds of 20–40 mph will sweep through the northeast, with gusts reaching 50–60 mph. The worst of the wind is expected around 11 p.m. across southern and central New England.

Gusty winds will persist into Thursday afternoon, especially across higher terrain, before easing by Friday. Temperatures will drop from the upper 50s under cloudy skies to the 40s overnight.
