Cameron Norrie fails to build on impressive win over Carlos Alcaraz at Paris Masters | Sporting News

Cameron Norrie Falls Short at Paris Masters

British No. 2 Cameron Norrie was unable to follow up his impressive win over World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, falling in the Round of 16 at the Paris Masters. Norrie was defeated 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 by Valentin Vacherot on Thursday, October 30.

The 30-year-old entered the match riding high after what he described as the biggest win of his career — his first victory over a current World No. 1. However, against Vacherot, he struggled to capitalize on key chances and failed to convert any of his five break points.

“It was the biggest win of my career,” said Norrie after beating Alcaraz.

In contrast, Vacherot made the most of his single break opportunity, taking control in the fifth game of the second set. Despite Norrie’s attempts to break back in the eighth game, Vacherot stayed solid on serve and closed out the match to reach the quarterfinals.

The victory marked Vacherot’s tenth consecutive win at Masters-level events, extending his momentum from his stunning Shanghai Masters triumph earlier in the month. For Norrie, the defeat means he remains without a quarter-final appearance in singles competition since Wimbledon.

Match Summary

Author’s summary: Norrie’s Paris Masters exit came swiftly after his career-best win over Alcaraz, while Vacherot continued his remarkable rise with a tenth straight Masters win.
