Qatar Launch Mega-Money Move to Host World Club Challenge

Organisers have reportedly received a seven-figure proposal from Qatar to host the World Club Challenge, the annual contest between the Super League and NRL champions. The lucrative offer reflected Qatar's ongoing ambition to attract major sporting events.

Despite the financial incentive, both Hull KR and the Brisbane Broncos have rejected the offer, opting to stage the match in the United Kingdom instead. The 2025 fixture is expected to take place in Hull, following the strong attendance seen when Wigan defeated the Penrith Panthers in 2024.

Potential Venues in the UK

The Robins initially explored several locations, including Leeds United’s Elland Road, but the most likely venue is the MKM Stadium, home to Hull FC. According to CEO Paul Lakin, the club began considering the stadium after their recent Grand Final victory.

“We are exploring the MKM Stadium as an option following our Grand Final success,” said Paul Lakin.

Final arrangements are being completed, and organisers remain optimistic that the match will proceed as planned. However, scheduling remains a challenge since Hull City have a home match on the Saturday before the proposed fixture date. The Rovers are also due to travel to Las Vegas the following Sunday for their game against Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium.
