Conservative Alberta MP Matt Jeneroux announced he will resign his seat in the House of Commons amid rumors of crossing the floor to the governing Liberals. The resignation follows days of intense speculation and internal party turmoil.
Jeneroux, representing Edmonton Riverbend since 2015, informed Conservative Party Whip Chris Warkentin of his decision in a letter obtained by the National Post. He did not specify the exact date of his departure.
“It was not an easy decision, but it is, I believe, the right one,” Jeneroux wrote.
The letter makes little reference to party leader Pierre Poilievre but expresses admiration for “the many remarkable individuals on both sides of the aisle” in the House of Commons.
This resignation marks the second dramatic departure from the Conservative caucus in three days, posing a significant challenge to Poilievre ahead of a leadership review scheduled for January.
Political commentators suggest that these events reveal deeper tensions behind the scenes on Parliament Hill.
Matt Jeneroux’s sudden resignation amid floor-crossing rumors highlights internal Conservative Party struggles and signals challenges ahead for leader Pierre Poilievre.
