A drug executive fainted in the Oval Office while President Donald Trump was announcing a deal with drugmakers to reduce obesity drug prices.
The press conference was interrupted Thursday when Gordon Findlay, global brand director for Novo Nordisk, suddenly collapsed. The event involved discussions about a deal between Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and the administration to expand coverage and lower prices for popular obesity treatments Zepbound and Wegovy.
"Are you okay? Gordon, are you okay?" – David Ricks, CEO of Eli Lilly, speaking as he noticed the executive fainting.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, quickly assisted Findlay as he fell to the floor. Health and Human Services Secretary was also present during the incident. The press was then asked to leave the room.
Approximately 30 minutes later, the press conference resumed, and President Trump provided an update on Findlay’s condition.
"President Donald Trump looks on as Dr. Mehmet Oz and others help Gordon Findlay, who passed out during an event on lowering drug prices."
The medical emergency briefly halted a significant press event focused on drug price reductions, highlighting the unpredictable nature of live proceedings.
