UTSA to Face South Florida on Second Consecutive Thursday Night
The Roadrunners are celebrating their 15th football season in 2025. As one of the newer FBS programs, UTSA is now in its third year as a member of the American Conference.
Program History and Development
UTSA began its program from scratch, holding a practice year in 2010 and playing its first season as an FCS Independent in 2011. The team joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2012, then moved to Conference USA in 2013. UTSA became a full FBS member in 2014.
Attendance and Records
The Roadrunners set NCAA modern startup records in 2011 by attracting 56,743 fans to their inaugural game against Northeastern State. They also averaged 35,521 fans per game for six home contests that season.
Milestones and Achievements
- First postseason appearance in the 2016 New Mexico Bowl during their sixth season.
- First win against a Big 12 team with a 17-10 victory over Baylor in 2017.
- Historic 2021 season opening with a road win at Illinois (Big Ten), winning their first conference championship by defeating WKU 49-42, and finishing with a 12-2 record and a third bowl game appearance.
- Repeated as league champions in 2022 with a 48-27 victory over North Texas, securing a third straight bowl appearance and ending with an 11-3 record.
