Maple Leafs continuing to explore trade market for Robertson, Kampf

Toronto Maple Leafs Exploring Trade Options for Robertson and Kampf

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to evaluate trade possibilities involving forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, reports TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

Nick Robertson's Season Status

Robertson has recorded two goals and four points in 10 games this season. His role has fluctuated, ranging from a spot on the top line to being a healthy scratch. Notably, he logged a season-high 17:22 minutes on ice during the team's recent loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, playing alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann while William Nylander was sidelined with an injury.

David Kampf's Current Situation

Kampf, who spent this season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Marlies, has one assist in four games. He was waived before the season started. Despite earning $2.4 million against the salary cap through next season, Kampf's cap hit on the Leafs' books is $1.25 million while in the AHL.

General Manager’s Perspective

“We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson," Dreger said on Insider Trading.

“Now, the veteran David Kampf, who’s in the American Hockey League, it’s more about just getting off the money. For Nick Robertson, this guy is a bottom-six, he’s a top-six, he’s in the press box, he’s scoring goals. He’s a young guy who the Toronto Maple Leafs have time for and they are in no rush to move him out.

“If they were to get the right sort of return for Nick Robertson, it would be a player of a similar age.”

Summary

Author’s summary: The Leafs consider moving Kampf to reduce salary cap burden, while Robertson’s trade depends on receiving a youthful player in return as he remains part of the team's future plans.
