Stranger Things is approaching its finale, but fans still have time left in Hawkins. The show was renewed for a fifth season, marking the end of the main storyline planned by creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
Seven years ago, the Duffer Brothers laid out a full story arc, expecting the series to run for four to five seasons. While the story proved too vast for just four, the end is now near.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” Matt and Ross Duffer wrote in an open letter to fans, per the Hollywood Reporter. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but - as you’ll see for yourselves - we are now hurtling toward our finale.”

While it’s a bittersweet moment due to the cast’s growth and nearing series end, anticipation remains high for what the Duffer Brothers will create next — possibly even a Stranger Things spin-off, as Variety suggests.

Stranger Things season 5 premieres November 27, 2025, and will conclude the planned story over three release phases, closing the chapter on Hawkins’ adventures.
