After two decades as Melbourne’s trusted weather presenter, Livinia Nixon is stepping away from her nightly forecasts. She reflects on her long career and looks forward to new chapters with the Nine Network.
For many Melbourne families, the evening news was never the same without Livinia Nixon’s familiar presence delivering the weather. Now, at age 50, Nixon will sign off from her weeknight weather briefings, marking the end of an important era at Nine.
Nixon’s decision is not due to burnout or loss of passion. Instead, she wants to devote more time to her family, especially as her youngest child, Ted, is about to start high school alongside older brother Henry.
“I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she joked after the announcement.
Livinia’s journey with Nine began in 1997. At 22, she joined the iconic show Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, quickly becoming a well-known household name despite being a shy girl in her school days.
Her start in TV was influenced by childhood appearances in ads and encouragement from a neighbor connected to the casting agency Artist Services. Mentors such as Steve Vizard and Glenn Robbins, along with the Nine team, were key in supporting her early career growth.
Livinia Nixon closes a significant chapter after 20 years with Nine, choosing family and new adventures while leaving a lasting legacy as Melbourne’s beloved weather presenter.
