The Moose Jaw Warriors snapped a losing streak on Wednesday night with a decisive 6–2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen.
Before the seven-minute mark, the Warriors gained their first power play. Pavel McKenzie opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season during the man advantage. Moments later, Dominik Pavlik doubled the lead at even strength.
With just over five minutes left in the first period, the Warriors earned another power play but couldn’t convert. Captain Lynden Lakovic soon made it 3–0 after even strength returned. The period closed with the Warriors on a penalty kill following a cross-checking call to Steven Steranka.
The team successfully killed off the remainder of Steranka’s penalty at the start of the second. Shortly after, a kneeing penalty to defenceman Connor Schmidt put them back shorthanded. The Hitmen capitalized on their second power play, reducing the gap with their first goal of the game.
A brief scrum near goaltender Chase Wutzke led to matching minors for Brady Ness and Harrison Lodewyk, resulting in four-on-four play.
“The Warriors controlled the pace early and kept composure when the game heated up.”
The Warriors dominated early, overcame penalties with discipline, and held firm defensively to start their week with a commanding win.
