Edie Falco, celebrated for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, expressed her enthusiasm for tackling a female superhero character, describing it as an exciting new challenge.
Falco thrives on portraying nuanced, layered roles, saying she has never met a character she couldn’t handle. She shared,
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
She explained her preference for complexity in roles, stating, “I look for those [complicated characters]. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed diverse, complex women over her career. She observed,
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
She also noted the advantage of avoiding typecasting early on, adding, “I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
Looking forward, Falco is intrigued by the prospect of portraying a political figure, joking,
“Maybe I can get something out of my system.”
Steve Schirripa, also from The Sopranos, recently discussed the show’s legacy and his personal connection to Las Vegas in his career.
