Edie Falco expressed her desire to take on a female superhero character, describing it as an exciting new challenge. Best known for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, Falco thrives on portraying complex, multifaceted characters.
Falco shared her confidence in handling diverse roles, saying,
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
She emphasized her preference for layered personalities, adding,
“I look for those [complicated characters]. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed a broad spectrum of strong, intricate women. She noted,
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
Regarding casting, she observed,
“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
Looking forward, Falco is also intrigued by the prospect of playing a political figure, humorously stating,
“Maybe I can get something out of my system.”
Steve Schirripa discussed the lasting legacy of The Sopranos and shared his fondness for Las Vegas in his career.
Edie Falco embraces complex roles and looks forward to new challenges, including playing a female superhero or political figure, continuing her legacy of powerful, nuanced characters.
