On November 1, Baltimore City Hall's Rotunda was filled with pride and gratitude as four former mayors—Sheila Dixon, Stephanie Rawlings Blake, Catherine Pugh, and Bernard “Jack” Young—joined current Mayor Brandon M. Scott for the unveiling of their official portraits.
The event celebrated Baltimore's leadership and legacy, bringing together family, friends, elected officials, and guests in the historic marble rotunda.
Mayor Scott opened the evening by noting the importance of the occasion, recalling that the last mayoral portrait unveiled was that of Mayor Martin O’Malley. He stated,
“Tonight, we’re adding to that lineage with portraits that reflect the true diversity, talent and leadership that define our city.”
The unveiled portraits were the result of Baltimore’s Faces of Leadership portrait competition. The contest attracted over 180 artist submissions from across the region. A panel of arts professionals conducted a blind selection process to narrow the entries to 17 finalists.
Each former mayor then chose their own artist to create the official portrait, making the event a unique celebration of both the city’s leaders and artistic talent.
The unveiling ceremony honored Baltimore’s diverse leadership and artistic community with a historic celebration that connects past and present city mayors through portraiture.
