The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an incident that occurred approximately 332 nautical miles east of Mogadishu, Somalia.
According to UKMTO, the vessel's master reported that four unauthorized individuals attempted to board his ship from a small craft that had departed a mothership located about five nautical miles to the east.
When the crew confronted the small craft, it retreated to the mothership. The master later confirmed that the small vessel, described as having a grey and white hull, turned back toward the mothership after warning shots were fired.
All crew members remain safe, and the vessel continues to its next port of call. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
A few days prior, UKMTO had issued a warning about suspicious activity south of Eyl, Somalia, where local authorities intercepted two dhows showing unusual behavior.
Maritime operators in the region are advised to stay vigilant, exercise caution during transit, and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO without delay.
UKMTO reports an attempted boarding off Somalia’s coast; the crew is safe, and investigations are underway amid renewed warnings of regional maritime threats.
