First Alert: Winter Blast to Bring Accumulating Snow

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Rain will gradually taper off this morning as a weather system moves through. By the afternoon, colder air settles in behind a front, dropping temperatures into the 30s and bringing scattered lake-effect snow showers. Expected accumulation ranges from a quarter to half an inch.

A large mass of cold air will move in this weekend, accompanied by an upper-level low in the jet stream. This marks the season’s first significant cold snap, with daytime highs trending in the 30s and the first measurable lake-effect snowfall of the season.

“We’ve issued a TV6 First Alert Weather Day for Sunday through Monday morning. Plan on slippery and snow-covered roads.”

Snow accumulation is projected mainly across the Northern Upper Peninsula, including Gogebic, Ontonagon, Marquette, and Alger counties, where dominant lake-effect bands could produce between 4 and 6 inches of snow.

Forecast Overview

The active pattern continues into next week, bringing additional snow chances and maintaining cold air across the area.
