A powerful winter storm is sweeping through the Far North, Northwest, and Mountain West regions of the United States this week, bringing heavy snowfall and intense winds. The system is expected to deliver up to 16 inches of snow and create dangerous conditions for residents and travelers.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter weather warnings for Alaska, Washington, and Wyoming. The alerts remain in effect from Wednesday night through Friday morning due to forecasts of heavy snow, strong gusts, and severely limited visibility.
“Residents and travelers should prepare for hazardous winter conditions, especially across mountain passes and elevated terrain,” NWS forecasters advised.
The system, driven by Arctic air and a deep low-pressure zone, is expected to create treacherous travel conditions. Meteorologists warn that winds reaching up to 40 mph, rapid snow accumulation, and freezing temperatures could cause whiteouts and icy road surfaces, particularly on major highways and through mountain routes.
Authorities urge drivers and residents in affected areas to take precautions, stock emergency supplies, and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
The incoming storm system threatens Alaska, Washington, and Wyoming with heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions likely to persist through Friday morning.
