In another candid interview, Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo criticized France’s Ligue 1, sparking renewed debate about European football leagues. The former Real Madrid icon once again voiced strong opinions on the French championship during his conversation with journalist Piers Morgan.
According to Ronaldo, Ligue 1 lacks balance and is overly centered around one club. He reiterated that the competition is dominated by Paris Saint-Germain, leaving little room for rivals to shine.
"The Saudi Pro League is much better than the Portuguese league and Ligue 1, where there’s only PSG. For me, it’s easier to score in La Liga than in the Saudi Pro League," he said.
Ronaldo defended the Saudi competition, emphasizing its quality and toughness, especially given the demanding conditions players face there. He pointed out that critics underestimate the league without understanding its environment and the level of talent it now attracts.
"They can say whatever they want, but the numbers don’t lie. They’ve never played in the Saudi Pro League. They don’t know what it’s like to run under 40°C heat. Just look at the number of top-level players we have in the league. If I were playing right now for a big Premier League team, I’d still be scoring just as many goals."
Ronaldo reignited controversy by calling Ligue 1 a one-club league and praising the Saudi Pro League’s intensity and competitiveness.
