Mike Smith, the Canadian actor famous for his role as Bubbles in the comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault in Nova Scotia. The charges were filed in provincial court on October 2, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
The alleged incident reportedly occurred on December 30, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. As part of the court's conditions, Smith is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or approaching their home, workplace, or school.
“We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”
Trailer Park Boys Inc., the company behind the series, confirmed that Mike Smith has stepped down from his role as managing director while the legal case proceeds.
Trailer Park Boys is a mockumentary-style comedy series that debuted in 2001 on Canada's Showcase network. The show gained a wider international audience after Netflix began streaming it in 2014.
