Following the recent government shutdown, the Russo family, owners of Riccardo's Pizza in Browns Mills, New Jersey, decided to provide free meals to anyone in need, without any questions asked.
Since announcing their initiative on social media, Riccardo's Pizza has received numerous calls and messages from people seeking help, as well as offers of donations to support the cause.
Owner Vito Russo emphasized the importance of giving back to the community that has supported them for over five decades. His father, Salvatore Russo, immigrated from Sicily and founded Riccardo's Pizza in 1974. Salvatore continues to work there, focusing exclusively on making pizza dough.
The business is now run by three generations of the Russo family, extending their commitment to their employees and customers, whom they consider part of a large, extended family.
The Russo family plans to keep providing free meals for as long as possible.
"As long as the Good Lord gives me the grace and the opportunity and this platform, we'll keep it rocking and rolling," said Vito Russo.
