Who knew pizza delivery would involve eagles? Wildlife photographer Doug Gemmell experienced the unexpected during a routine outing. Nature’s surprises can be as sharp as an eagle’s talon.
Doug Gemmell, a seasoned photographer known for capturing birds of prey, aimed to photograph a juvenile bald eagle, one of North America’s most famous raptors. Watching the eagle soar, he anticipated a graceful dive toward a lake to show off its fishing skills.
Instead, the eagle headed straight for a parking lot. Intrigued, Gemmell continued taking photos as the bird swooped among cars and pavement—a wildlife detour defying expectations.
Reviewing his shots later, Gemmell was stunned by one particular image. There the eagle sat proudly, its talons gripping a slice of pepperoni pizza.
“It’s not something you see every day, that’s for sure,” Gemmell remarked with a laugh.
This unusual scene highlights the remarkable adaptability of urban wildlife.
