Miss Piggy is getting a Disney movie, produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone

Miss Piggy Gets Her Own Disney Movie

From chorus pig to feminist icon, Miss Piggy is finally stepping into the spotlight in her own Disney feature. The film will be co-produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, two Academy Award–winning actors known for their strong creative voices.

Production and Announcement

Jennifer Lawrence revealed the news in an interview on the Las Culturistas podcast, sharing that she and Emma Stone are collaborating on the project for Disney. The actor explained that Cole Escola, known for the acclaimed Broadway comedy Oh, Mary!, has been brought on to write the script.

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie,” said Lawrence.

When asked whether she and Stone would appear in the film, Lawrence replied that they probably would, joking it was strange they had never shared the screen before.

Origins of the Project

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence explained the idea was born during the pandemic lockdown, at a time when “cancel culture” was a frequent topic of discussion.

“She said, ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled,’” Lawrence recalled. “Now that is not the plot necessarily, but it got the wheels turning.”

Background on Miss Piggy

Miss Piggy first appeared as a background performer on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s, later becoming one of the franchise’s central figures through the late 1970s and early 1980s. The character gained fame not only for her glamorous flair but also for her long-running, sometimes chaotic relationship with Kermit the Frog.

Author’s Summary
