Comedian Pete Davidson, 31, made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and reunited with Colin Jost at the “Weekend Update” desk, playfully roasting their Staten Island ferry boat.
Davidson joked, “So yeah, in case you’re wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we’re losing millions on this ferry,” referring to his recent performance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival. He added humorously, “I assume that’s what the article says; I can’t spend $5 on a paywall when I got a kid on the way,” hinting at his upcoming first child with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt.
The comic, who left “SNL” in May 2022 after eight seasons, commented, “I’m just excited to be a dad and give it all the energy and enthusiasm I never had for this show.”
Co-anchor Colin Jost, 43, shared his perspective, saying, “I definitely prefer having a kid to the ferry.” He has a 4-year-old son, Cosmo, with his wife Scarlett Johansson.
Davidson revealed they renamed the ferry from “Staten Island Ferry” to “Titanic II,” because “Staten Island Ferry sounded too depressing.”
Jost added, “That’s right, and it’s actually going very well. Recently, we got paid by Nike to put an ad on it for the New York City Marathon.”
While discussing perseverance, Davidson cast a subtle jab at “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels, 80.
