Scoring in your first NHL game is a dream start, and Elias Pettersson achieved just that last night. The former Växjö Lakers forward began the season opener for the Vancouver Canucks against the Calgary Flames and scored 13 minutes and 48 seconds into the game. He also assisted on the Canucks’ second goal, helping his team secure a 5-2 victory.
Pettersson’s strong NHL debut was expected by those who followed his European career. Last year, he won the SHL title with the Växjö Lakers and earned numerous accolades in Sweden. At 19 years old, he also played a key role in leading his team to the Champions Hockey League final.
Wearing the LGT Top Scorer Jersey for much of the CHL season, Pettersson scored six goals and led his team in scoring across 11 games. Our cameras visited Växjö to document how the fifth overall draft pick performed during his first season in both the CHL and SHL.
"It doesn't get much better than to score on your NHL debut."
Pettersson’s smooth transition from European leagues to the NHL highlights his exceptional talent and promising future.
