A McDonalds branch on Newmarket Road in Cambridge has again applied to extend its opening hours, following two previous refusals. Planning consultants Savills submitted the application on behalf of the restaurant.
The restaurant is currently open from 7am to 11pm every day. The new proposal requests permission to open an hour earlier, from 6am to 11pm, seven days a week.
“The extension is not considered to result in any unacceptable impact on surrounding residents,” Savills wrote, noting that nearby sites “have varying trading hours.”
“For example, Papa Johns is open until 3am each day of the week. This application simply seeks to extend the trading hours by an additional hour from that which is currently approved.”
According to Savills, the restaurant receives most of its customers early in the morning and believes the extension would bring local economic benefits without causing disturbance.
Previous attempts to extend operating hours were rejected, but McDonalds maintains that the change would serve demand and reflect the trading norms in the area.
