Brock Nelson discovered the world of Violet Sorrengail while browsing a bookstore in Toronto with former New York Islanders teammate Matt Martin. Similarly, Scott Wedgewood became captivated by the dragon-riding romantasy "Fourth Wing" during a drive from Michigan to Denver.
Over 2,500 fans purchased special tickets for the “Fourth Wing” night held Thursday at Ball Arena, celebrating Rebecca Yarros’ debut novel in the “Empyrean” series.
Colorado Avalanche players and fans alike are eager to meet Yarros, a local Colorado Springs resident and hockey mom. Brock Nelson expressed his enthusiasm:
“I’m pumped for that night, the jersey, having Rebecca there. I’m hoping I get to meet her. It’s cool to have that connection now.
Last year, I remember somebody was like, ‘Hey, did you see the author of ‘Fourth Wing’ was at one of your games?’ I had no idea. Then I saw that she’s a huge fan. Fast forward to now with ‘Fourth Wing’ night, and it’s pretty cool.”
The Yarros household supports the Avalanche, although Rebecca’s husband is an East Coast native and a longtime Rangers fan. They attended a game in Denver last season, where the conversation about her throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park arose.
