New UW capstone topic takes “student-centric approach”

New UW Capstone Topic Explores Connection in the Digital Age

A new capstone course, ARTS 450, is taking a "student-centric approach" to examine the impact of constant online presence on connections and relationships.

The course, titled "The Future of Connection: Platforms, Privacy, and the Public," delves into the values and risks of being constantly online, prompting students to reconsider the intersections between platforms, privacy, and their personal lives.

Are we more connected than ever or growing further and further apart?

Through innovative and collaborative problem-solving with interdisciplinary teams, students will explore these questions and present their findings at the 2025 Desmarais Family Summit, sharing their insights with the broader UW community.

In lieu of a final exam, this presentation will serve as the culmination of the course, showcasing the students' learning and understanding of the complex issues surrounding connection in the digital age.

Author's summary: Exploring connection in the digital age through a student-centric approach.
