Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.

Rep.-elect Grijalva has not been sworn in three weeks after being elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District. In a letter to Johnson's office, Mayes threatened litigation if the ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday, before the end of the federal government shutdown.

Mayes announced the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results, a procedural step in the election process.

The letter was sent on Tuesday, with Mayes stating that she will take legal action if her demands are not met.
