President Dallin H. Oaks was announced as the 18th President of the Church and named his counselors in a live broadcast.
In his first public address as President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Oaks spoke to Church members on Tuesday afternoon, October 14, from the Conference Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
President Oaks announced that after an extended period of fasting and prayer, he had called his counselors in the newly reorganized First Presidency.
I accept with humility the responsibility that God has placed upon me and commit my whole heart and soul to the service to which I have been called.
President Oaks also bore testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
