Salmon spotting season is underway on Vancouver Island, with the peak expected later this month.
Pacific salmon are returning to rivers and streams after traveling thousands of kilometers. They have already been spotted in Goldstream Provincial Park and in the Puntledge and Quinsam rivers, according to the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
“(This) is turning out to be a great year to spot salmon,”
said Michael Meneer, foundation president and CEO. He attributed this to favorable ocean conditions and conservation efforts by First Nations, streamkeepers, and grassroots groups.
We hope people take the opportunity to get outdoors and visit local streams to witness this incredible migration.
