Latter-day Saints affected after second major earthquake in Philippines

Earthquake in Philippines Affects Latter-day Saints

After a magnitude 7.4 quake hit Mindanao on October 10, local Church leaders in the Philippines provided aid to affected families.

A strong earthquake struck the southern Philippines, off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental, in Mindanao, just over a week after a powerful earthquake devastated Cebu and nearby provinces.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded the quake at magnitude 7.4, followed by nearly 300 aftershocks, the strongest reaching 5.8.

Area leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed all full-time missionaries serving in Mindanao are safe and accounted for.

Three missionary apartments sustained cracks during the high-magnitude tremors but were cleared for continued use after inspection.

No statement from the leaders.
