Millions of dollars pour into South Dakota for pheasant hunting season

South Dakota Expects Strong Pheasant Hunting Season

Millions of dollars are expected to pour into South Dakota for the upcoming pheasant hunting season, which begins on October 31.

Last year's season saw the most birds harvested in a decade, and the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department is optimistic about this year's prospects.

"We had that mild winter, so we know there were a lot of birds left on the landscape. When you have those tough winters, that's when we aren't set up just as perfectly,"

said Nick Harrington, spokesman for the GFP. Other small game, like prairie grouse, also had their highest numbers in 25 years.

Author's summary: South Dakota expects a strong pheasant hunting season.
