Six US companies will spend at least $350 million to manufacture medical gowns for the Strategic National Stockpile.
This move comes years after the COVID-19 pandemic exposed a shortage of medical gowns, leaving doctors and nurses without essential equipment.
The purchase is part of a broader effort to restock the personal protective equipment in the stockpile, which was depleted early in the pandemic due to inadequate restocking in previous years.
According to assistant secretary Dawn O’Connell, the new gowns are among several purchases made by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response to replenish emergency supplies.
