Three major labor unions have sued the federal government to stop a social media surveillance program aimed at revoking visas and green cards of immigrants with "hostile attitudes" towards the government.
The program has allegedly suppressed free speech, targeting individuals, including graduate students, who have expressed pro-Palestine views.
The First Amendment applies to everyone who lives in the U.S.
The lawsuit, filed by three civil liberties groups, is the first to challenge the surveillance program itself, according to lawyer Lisa Femia of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
