Fear of Victimisation Silences Whistle-Blowers

Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Board Chair of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), expressed concern that fear of job loss or victimisation prevents public sector workers from exposing corruption.

Mr Domelevo noted that in cases like the alleged financial irregularities at the National Food Buffer Stock Company and the DRIP equipment procurement, employees may have detected wrongdoing but remained silent to protect their livelihoods.

Workers, especially internal auditors who attempt to speak up, are often transferred, denied promotion, or dismissed altogether, creating an environment that enables corruption to flourish.

This environment of fear prevents many from reporting corruption, allowing it to persist within state institutions.

Author's summary: Fear of victimisation silences public sector workers.
