When I stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, I do so with respect—not as an empty ritual, but as a reflection of what this country promises to be:
“one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. Those words are not a declaration of perfection; they are a vision to strive toward.
Recent actions by the current Trump administration raise serious concerns about whether we are moving closer to, or further from, the America we pledge to every morning. My intention in writing this is not to criticize America, but to defend it—the America that believes equality is sacred, that freedom is shared, and that justice is blind.
In April, an executive order instructed federal agencies to limit enforcement of “disparate impact” discrimination laws.
