Valentin Vacherot became Monaco's first ATP Tour singles champion by beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai.
Vacherot, ranked 204 in the world, made history as the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1000 event, defeating Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Notably, Vacherot came from a set down for the sixth time in the tournament and previously beat four-time Shanghai champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
Rinderknech won the opening set with 12 winners and just two unforced errors, but Vacherot broke his opponent in consecutive games from 3-3 in the second set to lead in the third.
