After 500 days of siege, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia have taken control of El Fasher in Darfur, triggering widespread fear and forcing thousands to flee.
A senior UN refugee agency official, Jacqueline Wilma Parlevliet, reported a "significant outflow" of civilians into Tawila, 60 kilometres west of the city, which already hosts around 650,000 displaced people.
New arrivals have recounted stories of widespread ethnically and politically motivated killings, including people with disabilities being executed and others being shot while trying to escape.
Humanitarian agencies, including the UNHCR, are providing protection services, counselling, and cash assistance to affected communities in Tawila.
