According to Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta, building pipelines can significantly ease the process of balancing the budget.
She notes that if Canada had built the Northern Gateway, Energy East, and Keystone XL pipelines, it would have added approximately 2.5 million barrels of oil a day in pipeline export capacity.
This, in turn, would generate around $55 billion in revenues, which is more than one per cent of Canada's gross domestic product (GDP) annually.
