On October 25, 2025, federal immigration agents from Border Patrol released tear gas in Old Irving Park, a Chicago neighborhood, just minutes before the annual Halloween parade was set to begin.
This incident resulted in the cancellation of the parade. The agents are part of Customs and Border Protection, a separate agency from ICE, both under the Department of Homeland Security.
Some claims stated that ICE "tear gassed children," however, it was unclear how close any children were to the tear gas deployment.
Following the incident, DHS head Kristi Noem denied a request from Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to pause ICE raids for Halloween.
