Yellowknife City Council Votes to Create New Water and Sewer Rates
The issue of water and sewer rates was a major topic at the city council meeting, with many residents voicing their opinions.
A consultancy firm, InterGroup Consultants, was hired to review Yellowknife's water and sewer utility rate structure in 2021. Due to Covid-19 and the 2023 wildfires, the report was delayed until April 2025.
Trucked water users in Yellowknife are underpaying, while piped users are overpaying.
The report recommended increasing the average person's trucked water and sewer fees by about 10 per cent annually for the next three years. By 2027, the bill would be almost $700 more per year than it is now.
