Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary confirmed the final seven elderly lions are to be put down.

The last seven surviving big cats at Whangārei’s famous lion park will be euthanised this week.

“This has been an incredibly hard time for all of us,” said Janette Vallance, facility operator.

The remaining big cats are elderly lions, aged between 18 and 21 years.

“There were no real options left,”
Vallance said.

The staff and I are devastated.
